  8. Description
  9. -----------

  11. QuikGrid is a program written for MS WINDOWS which will read in a set of
  12. scattered data points (x, y, z) which represents a surface. The program
  13. will generate a regular grid from this data and then display the surface
  14. as a contour map, or as a grid viewed from an arbitrary viewpoint, with
  15. hidden lines removed. The display may be zoomed and panned using the
  16. left mouse button. Data about features on the display may be selected
  17. using the right mouse button.
  18.  
  19. QuikGrid runs under MS WINDOWS 3.1 or later. An 80 by 80 grid
  20. representing 1000 scattered data points will typically be gridded in 10
  21. to 20 seconds on a 33Mhz 486. A 125 by 125 grid (the maximum allowed)
  22. representing 15,000 data points will be gridded in less than a minute on
  23. the same machine. This program makes no special demands on the PC and
  24. will run on much smaller machines at a (much) slower speed. The display
  25. may be copied to the clipboard, printed or output as a DXF file which
  26. may be used as input to Autocad or other programs that accept that
  27. format. The grid may be output as a series of XYZ triplets or in the ER
  28. Mapper raster format.

  30. QuikGrid is a lean program. It is easy to use and is very fast. It will
  31. run on modest hardware platforms. It is well suited in situations where
  32. it is desired to have a quick look at a set of data points, for example
  33. under field conditions where only a portable PC is available.

  35. QuikGrid is self documented through it's help facility.

  37. Installation
  38. ------------

  40. If you are installing from a diskette:
  41.   1) Under Windows 3.1 click on the Program Manager "File" menu.
  42.      Under Windows 95 click on the "Start" button.  
  43.   2) Choose "Run" from the menu.
  44.   3) Type "A:INSTALL" or "B:INSTALL" depending on which drive
  45.      the installation diskette is in.
  46.  
  47. If you are installing from a down-loaded ZIP file:
  48.   1) Create a temporary directory on drive C.
  49.   2) Copy the Zipped archive file to the temporary directory
  50.      and unzip the Installation files into it.
  51.   3) Under Windows 3.1 click on the Program Manager "File" menu.
  52.      Under Windows 95 click on the "Start" button.
  53.   4) Choose "Run" from the menu.
  54.   5) Type "C:(temporary directory)\INSTALL"
  55.   6) When installation is complete you may delete the temporary
  56.      directory and the files it contains.

  58. Note for Windows 95 use:

  61. Under Windows 95, the System Agent Scheduler that comes with Microsoft
  62. Plus must be turned off, or you should install Service Pack 1 available
  63. from www.microsoft.com. Look under "What's New" for this update. The
  64. following is a quote from this update.

  66.     "The Microsoft Plus! Update provides an updated version of Sage.dll
  67.     to fix a minor problem with System Agent: When version 1.0 System
  68.     Agent is running, programs that perform floating-point calculations
  69.     might be slightly off in precision. This problem does not occur if
  70.     System Agent is turned off."

  72. Distribution

  75. The evaluation version of QuikGrid may be distributed freely. It is a
  76. fully functional version of the program if the number of data points
  77. input to the program is less than 100. For more than 100 data points the
  78. evaluation version will not support many functions present in the
  79. registered version (for example copying the display to the clipboard is
  80. disabled if more than 100 data points are input).
